Almost everybody has played the game Tetris. So I won't go into huge
detail about it. Different shaped blocks fall from the top of the
screen, and you have to get them in rows across the screen to clear
each row. There. Now, less people have played Dr. Mario. This great puzzle game,
released in late 1990 for the NES and Game Boy. You start with an medicine
bottle filled with little blue, yellow, and red viruses. Dr. Mario drops these
capsules down from the top of the screen. They look kind of like this:
________
|___|___|
The capsule is split into two halves and each half can be blue, yellow,
or red. You're supposted to match the color of the capsule up to the
color of the virus. You need 3 capsule halves to kill one virus. By the
way, the virus is the size of one half of a whole capsule. Whew!
Graphics [8/10]:
The graphics are about normal for a SNES game. It's no 3D wonder-world,
but the graphics get the job done. Anyway, isn't the gameplay that
matters?
Music and Sound [10/10]:
The original Dr. Mario for the NES had great tunes, but this music is
really great! You can choose "CHILL", "FEVER", or "OFF" (no sound at
all). All the sound effects are great, too. From the sound of the
capsules plinking down, to the popping sound when the virus dies, it's
all good.
Game Play [10/10]:
Really great gameplay. Plus, there's tons of levels to complete, and
three speeds to complete them in.
Challenge and Replay [9/10]:
Sometimes it gets frustrating, but overall, this is a game you'll
probably play and play again.
Overall [9.25/10]:
Overall, I would say something to rent THEN buy,
in case you don't like it. In my opinon, I'd say this is one of my
all-time favorite games (next to SMB All-Stars), and here's hoping it's one
of yours too.
